Obituary for Helen Hebenstreit

Helen M Hebenstreit of Ste Marie Illinois, formerly of, Oconee, Illinois died Thursday, August, 20, at 1:27 AM, at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, Illinois, she was 93.

Funeral services will be, Monday, August, 24 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oconee with Fr. Bill Kessler, officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 until 6:00 PM, Sunday, August 23 at Kennedy & Sons Funeral Home, Pana. There will be a 6:00 PM Prayer Service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oconee.

Helen was born Saturday, April 15 1916, in Willow Hill, Jasper County, Illinois, the child of Paul A and Ruth E (maiden name Harmon) Hoecherl. She was first united in marriage to Ormond Temmen in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Oconee, Ormond died of illness in his home three years later on August 2, 1948. She was again united in marriage to T. A. "Phonse” Hebenstreit, by Fr Paul Hebenstreit on November 12, 1955, in St Cecilia Catholic Church, Glenn Carbon Illinois. She was a loving wife to her husband “Phonse” who died May 23, 1989. Helen was for many years the sacristan of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oconee. An active member of the community, she opened her home in near the church to many brides who dressed there for their wedding. She moved to Ste Marie in the mid 1990’s and lived out her live there in the company of her sisters Mildred and Mary.

Helen is survived by two sisters Mildred and Mary Hoecherl of Ste Marie Illinois, she was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ormond Temmen, and T.A."Phonse" Hebenstreit, and brother Fred Hoecherl.
