Marjorie Beyers, 85 of Barrington, Illinois and formerly of Pana died Thursday morning, January 13, 2022 at Carriage Crossing Assisted Living Facility in Taylorville. Funeral Services will be Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10:30AM in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana with Father Rodney A. Schwartz officiating. Visitation will also be Monday, January 17, 2022 in St. Patrick’s Church beginning at 9:30AM until time of service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana Township, Pana, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Pana Sacred Heart School, Pana High School, or St. John’s College of Nursing. Marjorie Beyers was born Tuesday, June 30, 1936 in Pana, Illinois the daughter of Orville Edwin and Hyacinth V. (maiden name Klein) Beyers. She was raised in Pana on the family farm attending Sacred Heart School and Pana High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1954. Marjorie attended Indiana University at Bloomington and Indianapolis, St. John’s College of Nursing, and Northwestern University-Evanston where she earned an RN, BSN, MSN, and ultimately a Ph.D. in Nursing. Marjorie was passionate about nursing and served in a number of nursing administrative and educator roles in her extensive career. She was the Executive Director of the National Commission on Nursing, Director of the Evanston Hospital School of Nursing, Vice President of Nursing and Allied Health at Mercy Health Services, and a tenured professor at University of Texas at Austin. In retirement, she served as a consultant for nursing and health care systems as well as the Interim Chancellor at St. John’s College in Springfield, Illinois. Her work included over 10 books and numerous articles, presentations, and memberships on various committees and advisory boards. Marjorie was the recipient of many awards and honors including the Pana High School Hall of Fame, the Distinguished Alumni Awards from St. John's College and Indiana University School of Nursing, and the Distinguished Service Award from Mercy College in Detroit, Michigan. Aunt Margie as she was affectionately known, was a member of St. Anne Catholic Community in Barrington, Illinois. She was always smiling with a positive attitude and loved spending time with her family, traveling all over the world, working in her flower garden, and painting landscapes. Marjorie Beyers is survived by Sister: Mary (Sheldon) Marrs of Lebanon, Indiana, and Sister-in-Law: Joan Beyers of Decatur, Illinois. She was blessed with 18 Nieces and Nephews: Lori, Elizabeth, Carol, Joseph, Ellen, John, Eileen, Stephen, Kevin, Shelly, Anne, Shawn, Martin, Steve, Mike, Julie, Suzanne and Andy; many Great-Nieces and Nephews. Marjorie was preceded in death by her Parents, Brothers: Lewis Beyers and Kirk Beyers; Sisters: Kathleen McGovern and Betty in infancy, Sister in law: Patricia Beyers, Brother in law: Joseph McGovern, and Nephew: John Beyers.
